For my first column at Brainwash, as an official regular contributor I would write about demographics and the incredible changes in the last 55 years. And the even more incredible changes over the next 45. I could talk about the events in France, and climb on Claude Polin's shoulders in explaining them. But I found little new statistical evidence. I would be repeating what better writers had already said. Inevitably the piece evolved into one about books on men's fashion.

But all along you have been asking yourselves: What does Michael Brendan Dougherty think? The best advice for those aspiring to dress well is moderation and patience. The temptation, especially for conservatives, is anachronism and resentful affectation. If the great unwashed forgo three piece suits I'll wear them even to pickup basketball games! Bowties?
