Predictions 2006

Harper's Magazine will only run one issue this year that contains three or more articles detailing the Fascist threat that Evangelicals pose to America. But no one will act on Chris Hedge's intimation that violence should be used to stop Evangelicals. No guarantees on how many issues will run just one article.

The GOP will lose 1-3 Senate seats but retain a majority in both Houses.  Santorum will retain his seat.

Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean will be out of their present positions (for reasons I cannot predict) no later than six weeks after the Congressional Elections. Maybe this will happen before the elections.

GOP elites will increasingly fear the populism of their base on immigration and economic matters.

Steve Sailer will start to get respect from more mainstream outlets - until he continues being Steve Sailer. Jon Podhoretz will use some sort of word like "ick" or "slime" in relation to Steve Sailer's character/writings. (Steve will say I'm making easy predictions)

Democrats will continue to search in vain for a "Contract for America" style campaign, for "ideas that resonate" etc etc etc.

It will be said that Bush received a bounce when the GOP retains its majorities.

My writing will appear in a magazine this year.

So will A.C. Kleinheider's.

I'll be invited somewhere over-my-head and impress 80% of the people there and terribly wound and offend the rest.

Pope Benedict will more insistently call for a "Reform of the reform" of the Mass.

The Utah Jazz will make the second round of the NBA playoffs this year.

Our Rachel McAdams will be in one very good movie this year, and one very bad movie.

Thomas Friedman will name drop some venture capitalists name that he golfed with in what used to be considered a third world country. He will claim that the ring tone on said venture capitalist's PDA proves all of his theories correct.

There will emerge a good paleo-con/realist/evol-con site that is updated almost daily - somewhat along the line of LewRockwell.com  It may be an offshoot of The American Conservative - or it may come from other sources.

The men's magazine craze for Band of Outsiders ties and skinny ties in general will go strong at least until fall.

Dandyism.net will get an overhaul on its look.

Sales at Banana Republic will stay steady and they will drop their way too busy geometric print shirts.

Someone will  idiotically bring up Shay's Rebellion in relation to Iraq's insurgents. I will lie to my blogging readers and claim to have started an alt-country band named Shay's Rebellion.

Tim Carney, whose book comes out in the summer, will be invited onto Hardball and The Situation on MSNBC.

MSNBC will retain Rita Cosby in some way but cancel her show. Pat Buchanan will be filling in at some historical moment during which he particularly would be most entertaining to watch on television - just like the time he was filling in for Joe Scarborough when Arafat died and Larry Kudlow almost had a heart attack when Pat brought up Arafat's Nobel Peace Prize.

I will be found almost dead on my bedroom floor after nearly choking to death on the condescension of Ron Reagan.

VH1 which pioneered the one hour pop documentary style programming with Behind the Music, then abandoned it for one hour- two week insta-nostalgia programming with "I Love the 80's" etc - will find another format gimmick that will catch on with other cable networks like E!, We etc...
