My NCAA Brackets.

Or you could borrow from Sports Columnist Bill Simmons' mom and wife. I think the most controversial choice I made was putting Gonzaga into the title game against the obvious pick, UConn. The critics are all saying that Gonzaga has struggled to win its games. Of course that has revealed Adam Morrison, their star, to be a clutch player. Gonzaga will survive the critical backlash. I think they are a gritty team and a tough out. They will survive tough games against UCLA and Memphis. People will even complain that they are winning ugly. That they aren't as good as past Gonzaga teams. All true. They will still win.
It was hard not to pick Villanova for the Final Four. The Four Guard offense is well suited for the NCAA tourney where guards are the premier position. This brings us to J.J. Redick of the much hated Duke. My own view is that Duke is overrated. Redick has been streaky - and I think their bench production will fail them in the end. Do they have anyone to defend Adam Morrison?
And what about my upsets? Bookies are all hot for Winthrop - because Winthrop seems better than a 15 seed. This may be true, but they are not that much better. I did pick Southern Illinois (11) to upset W. Virginia (6) and my biggest upsets are Utah State (12) beating Washington (5) and Montana (12) beating Nevada (5). Later on I also have B.C getting to the Final Four.
My dark horse teams are LSU(4), who could very well mess me up and make it to the Final Four, and Seton Hall who I have going to the Sweet 16. I think that Seton Hall gives very little evidence of being able to make a run. Who can explain their bizarre record - beating West Virginia and Syracuse, but losing to Rutgers and St. Johns? I wish I could pick the Big East darlings, Syracuse to do some more damage but I just don't think they can keep it up. Also, look at McNamara's shooting percentage. He makes them when they count, but he's been hurt and I don't think he can run on fumes much longer.
Oh- and the chart isn't clear on this but I'm picking UConn to beat Gonzaga for the title and the total combined score of that game to be an unusually high 167.
