Learn About the Cold War

Spain Doesn't Count, I GuessThis is one of the most interesting Cold War artifacts I've uncovered on YouTube. I find it fascinating that this cartoon begins by celebrating blood and soil Americana - if you count the Malt Shop and the golf course as blood and soil, as I do. It does partially predicate the worth of "the capitalist system" on all of the material benefits it bequeaths to us. As a future article somewhere will explain, I do not think that acquisitive materialism can serve as the basis for American nationalism. Freedom I think, may be valuable even if it doesn't continue to produce the kind of wealth that state capitalism has in the past 100 years.
Just a note: Late in the 9 minute film, you see that John Q. Public not only warns against utopianism but religious intolerance. My guess is that this is vaguely aimed to warn Protestants not to preach intolerance of Catholics and Jews.
